Long Live the CD

Many people do not realize that the CD is actually still a worthwhile form of media. A lot of people think that the CD is on its way out because of music downloads. However, there are many great reasons why the CD will likely be around for years to come.

Why Downloads Can’t Replace CDs?

You might think that downloads are better than CDs, but they can’t replace them.

  • Lower quality
  • Most stereos do not allow for mp3 players
  • Most cars do not allow for mp3 players
  • Not all songs are available for legal download

If you want to listen to music in your car or home, you cannot beat a CD. Playing music from a computer is not nearly as satisfying as playing it on a stereo. You can’t turn it up as loud and the speakers are of lower quality.

You also cannot plug your headphones into your ears when you’re driving down the road, because you have to be able to hear what is going on around you. Unless you have a brand new car, you probably don’t have the capability to plug an mp3 player into the car speakers. These are just some of the reasons why CDs are better than mp3 players.

More Reasons for CDs

Even if you like downloading music, you may find that CDs are helpful for other reasons. For example, if you download a lot of music, you may want to back up your music files. Computers crash or become outdated all the time. You do not want to lose your music because you didn’t back it up. CDs are the perfect way to do this, because you can then use the CD on stereos or in your car, which makes it a usable backup source.

Another reason that CDs are helpful is that they are available everywhere. Anything you want can be found on a CD. You may not always be able to find what you are looking for on legal download sites. In addition, if you want to get music for someone as a gift, you cannot beat a CD. It is not legal to download music and burn it onto a CD for someone else’s use, but only for your own use. Therefore, if you want to give someone the gift of music legally, you have to buy them a CD.

The Best of Both Worlds

Buying CDs doesn’t have to seem like a waste of money. You can have the best of both worlds whether you download music or buy a CD. You can rip CDs onto your computer for downloading onto mp3 players, and the ripped copy of the song is much higher quality than that you download.

In addition, if you download music, you can burn it onto a CD for use in stereos and cars. By using both your computer and CDs, you can have the best of both worlds. There is no need to choose one or the other.
